Materials
-2 large bowls or pots
-a variety of spoons (including measuring spoons)
-a towel or bath mat
Preparation
-fill one bowl halfway with water
-set up activity in bathroom, kitchen, or outside where it's safe to get wet
Actvity
-let your baby or toddler play in the water :) Show them how to scoop water from one bowl into another using the spoons. This is a good preparatory activity for children who are almost ready to feed themselves using a spoon.
This is a great idea! How long would you expect baby to play?
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the child, my son was interested in this activity for about 15 minutes and he is 15 months old. He eventually abandoned the spoons and started splashing after 15 minutes :)
ReplyDeleteWe are trying this tomorrow!!!
ReplyDeleteThe other day I needed to come up with a warm-weather activity in a hurry for my 5yo, and this one was a great starting point!
ReplyDeleteI found 5 different sized containers (buckets, sand truck etc), and created a worksheet with pictures of each container and an empty box underneath each picture.
I then filled a large container with water, and gave my 5yo a small container for scooping.
My 5yo was instructed to count the number of scoops required to fill each of the pictured objects with water, and write the correct number in the correct box.
He had so much fun!!!!
Thanks again for a great activity. This blog is saving my life during this school holidays :-)
